Milky Way from OBX

It's been raining and cloudy for days on our vacation to the Outer Banks. Finally ha a little bit of clear weather to play with my Vixen Polari and Canon s100 with CHDK. Unfortunately there was a bit of haze and some light pollution which caused some bright washed out areas.

Here is the first results of the Milky Way. 9x 50sec exposures stacked with Deep Sky Stacker and tweaked in Photoshop.


And here is my second image which includes Andromeda.

ZAP!

I was on vacation last week back east in the Outer Banks where we got some fun lightning storms. I downloaded a motion detection script for the canon firmware hack (chdk) and gave it a test run. It worked great!

On our way back from the beach we stopped to get gas. I clearly picked the right gas station to stop at.

There were millions of little jellyfish all over the beach our last day in the Outer Banks. Some of them had cool/scary little horn things. I liked this little Triceratops Jelly!

OBX Edition -- Pink Rocket Ship!

It's been a long time since I've found a Pink Rocket Ship! The first time was when I was about 8 or 9. A friend and I found a bunch of these Pink Rocket Ships someone had thrown out. They were on the street corner by a trash bag some animal had ripped open. Lucky us! We grabbed a few Pink Rockets each and ran off pretending they were from the James Bond movie that had the rocket that opened up in the front and ate the other space craft. Notice how they have the opening on the front just like in the movie. Any way later that day I showed my Mom the cool Pink Rockets. She didn't really seemed as excited about them as I was. After she explained what they were used for I relied why and didn't complain when she told me to go wash my hands.

OBX Edition -- Still Life

This was the top of the dresser in our room in the historic beach cottage we stayed at in the Outer Banks, NC for my annual family vacation. The cottage was pretty neat. It was old, kind of spooky and had lots and lots of doors many of which seemed to go nowhere (maybe they were for the ghosts?).
